Langenberg Pütterfeld Cemetry

The first interment at what is now the Municipal Langenberg-Pütterfeld Cemetery took place on 24 August 1931. Locally, the cemetery was often referred to as the Catholic Cemetery, as it was primarily used for the burial of deceased persons of the Catholic faith. Today, however, burials are no longer separated according to religious denomination.

 

Under a public-law agreement concluded on 21 December 1972 between the Protestant parish and the City of Langenberg, the city was authorized to manage and administer both the municipal cemetery and the former Protestant cemetery as a single entity. As a result, both cemeteries were combined under the designation "Municipal Langenberg Cemetery". Since the incorporation of the City of Langenberg into the City of Velbert on 1 January 1975, the cemetery has formed part of the municipal cemetery system of Velbert.

 

A war graves section for Russian casualties of the Second World War is located in the lower left area of the cemetery.

 

Today, burials take place in a variety of traditional grave types for both earth burials and urn interments, as well as within an anonymous urn burial section.
